With the help of Vatel Switzerland’s internship counselor, Neil Koolmon, Dimitri applied for this postion through the Marriott Careers platform which landed him a position in his dream destination for the summer season. When asked how it was for him to learn and discover a new culture, he states,
“I personally think that the second internship in Vatel really helps the students open their mind to the world. Students are allowed to go anywhere, and in my opinion, I though that it was a great way to travel as far as possible and open myself to a new culture and way of life. Bora Bora is situated in the Pacific Ocean and is one of the 118 islands that make up French Polynesia. Living there for 6 months was honestly one of the best experiences in my life. Who wouldn’t like working in a luxurious hotel during the week and spend their weekend relaxing at the beach, jet-skiing, or even go diving with the sharks ?”
Apart from enjoying the scenery and culture, Dimitri also learned certain tasks and furthered his professionalism with the luxury standards and protocols of St. Regis.
“My tasks as a concierge in the St. Regis Bora Bora were being able to welcome, inform, anticipate and answer each and every guest's requests. The concierge needs to assure itself that all the quality standards are put in place and are respected, whilst fulfilling the guest's demand. During this whole internship, I really had to experience a completely new working environment which is a resort. Working in a resort is completely different than in a hotel in a city. There is a larger number of employees, the guests are usually more relaxed since it is a holiday-oriented hotel, but the responsibilities and expectations are very high.”
We can conclude that Dimitri’s enriching experience was quite an adventure!
